Extra Help for Families: 100% Funding for Home Insulation

Here at WISE Charitable Trust, we’re committed to helping Taranaki whānau live in warmer, drier, healthier homes. Through the EECA Warmer Kiwi Homes Grant, thousands of homeowners have already received insulation upgrades, completely free of charge.

What is the Warmer Kiwi Homes Grant?

The Warmer Kiwi Homes initiative is a government-funded program run by EECA (Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority). It was created to ensure New Zealanders—particularly low-income families—have access to proper insulation and efficient heating.

If your home qualifies for the grant, EECA covers between 80% & 90% of the cost of insulation and WISE through our funders, will cover the rest of the insulation cost making it 100% FREE for you.

What’s Changed in 2025?

Thanks to our sponsors, WISE Charitable Trust can cover the remaining cost, making insulation upgrades 100% FREE for eligible families with children under 19.

This means:

• More Taranaki households qualify.
• If you meet all other eligibility criteria AND have kids under 19, your insulation may be fully covered.
• You don’t need to worry about a thing, we’ll help every step of the way

What Does the Grant Cover?

The grant applies to:

• Ceiling insulation
• Underfloor insulation

These are essential elements in keeping your home warm during winter and cool in summer. The grant does not cover wall insulation, window glazing, or general heating unless applying separately for a heat pump grant (eligibility may vary).

Who is Eligible?

To qualify, you must:

• Be the homeowner and occupier (you live in and own the home)
• Live in a home built before 2008
• Either:
  • Have a Community Services Card, or
  • Have a SuperGold Combo Card, or
  • Live in a deprivation area 5–10 (we can check this for you)

If your home already has insulation, you may still qualify if:

• It doesn’t meet the current standards, or
• It’s in poor condition

Even if you’ve received a grant before in a different house, you can still apply again at your current home.

Why is Insulation So Important?

Without proper insulation, your home loses heat through the roof and floors, making it cold, damp, and expensive to heat. This can lead to:

• Mould growth
• Higher power bills
• Poor health outcomes—especially for children, elderly, and those with existing conditions

Upgrading your insulation helps you stay warm, healthy, and reduce energy use.

How Do I Apply for the Grant?

Applying for the Warmer Kiwi Homes Grant may sound complicated, but WISE is here to make it easy.

Step 2: Let Us Do the Paperwork

Step 3: Insulate Your Home

Once the grant is approved, our trusted contractors will install your new insulation. You’ll be on your way to a warmer, healthier home—at no cost to you if you meet the full criteria.
