Last week, we hosted a Healthy Homes Education event at the War Memorial Hall in Waitara. It was a thoughtful and purposeful day focused on sharing practical knowledge around healthy homes. The event gave us a valuable opportunity to connect with locals, answer questions, and offer advice on simple ways to create warmer, drier, and safer homes across our region.
Meaningful Conversations, Practical Impact
Throughout the day, we had genuine one-on-one conversations. These moments helped us listen more closely and understand the real challenges people face in their homes. Many shared their stories and concerns. In return, we offered guidance and practical tips they could use straight away. These small but important changes can have a lasting impact on health, comfort, and energy use.
We want to thank Bree for leading the day with care and attention to detail. She planned the event, set up the space, and made sure everything ran smoothly. Her dedication stood out. We also appreciate the support of Ryley and Rebecca, who helped with set-up and welcomed attendees with warmth and positivity.
Why Healthy Homes Matter
At WISE, we believe healthy homes are essential for wellbeing. A home should not make people sick, it should protect and support them. That’s why insulation, heating, moisture control, and ventilation are so important. These features directly affect health, especially for tamariki, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions. Cold, damp homes are linked to serious health issues. But the good news is that these problems can be solved.
This event was one part of our ongoing mahi. We’re committed to raising awareness and empowering people with the tools they need. Whether it’s understanding how insulation works, learning how to manage moisture, or accessing support, we’re here to help. Every conversation moves us closer to safer, healthier homes for everyone in Taranaki.
We have more Healthy Homes events planned across the region. If you’re part of a school, community group, marae, or initiative that could benefit, please reach out. We’re keen to partner with you and bring these important kōrero to your space.
Thank You for Being Part of the Journey
