We are incredibly grateful to the talented team at the New Plymouth Sewing School, led by Nicolene, for their amazing contribution to our annual Pyjama Drive.

Earlier this year, Nicolene approached us with a beautiful idea to sew pyjamas for tamariki in need. And wow, did her team deliver!

Over the course of three days (22–24 April), 48 incredible wāhine gathered at the sewing school to cut, stitch, and sew 30 pairs of cosy pyjamas in sizes 4, 6, and 8 years. These ladies came from all backgrounds and skill levels, from beginners to advanced sewers and they poured their aroha into every stitch.

All the fabric was generously donated, and the group worked tirelessly over a 15-hour marathon of sewing, fuelled by a shared passion to give back to their community.

Nicolene said: “We love to sew! This initiative has allowed us to use our sewing skills to give back to the local community. We hope that these pj’s will be well received by tamariki and that this ‘sew-cial’ can become an annual event.”

We are blown away by the generosity, skill, and kindness of everyone involved. Thanks to Nicolene and the New Plymouth Sewing School, 30 more tamariki will be wrapped in warmth this winter.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your mahi makes a difference, and we are so lucky to have you as part of our wider community.
