The Junction Zero Waste Hub has opened the doors to a brand new building, marking an important moment for our community and for WISE Charitable Trust. This new space reflects years of mahi, collaboration, and belief in a future where people, place, and the environment are deeply connected.
On 20 January, we welcomed our first visitors into the new Junction building after weeks of careful planning, moving, and preparation. The team worked with focus and pride to create a space that feels warm, practical, and full of potential. As a result, the building passed health and safety clearance smoothly, reflecting the care and teamwork behind every detail.
We also want to acknowledge and thank New Plymouth District Council and Toi Foundation for their continued support. Their backing made this new building possible and reflects a shared commitment to community wellbeing, sustainability, and long term impact across Taranaki.
A space grounded in purpose and community
Before opening, representatives of Ngāti Tāwhirikura blessed and named the building. We acknowledge this with deep respect and gratitude. The building carries the name Tuituia, meaning to lace, sew, and bind. This name reflects the idea that small actions, when joined together, support the long term wellbeing of our mokopuna and te taiao.
This kaupapa sits at the heart of The Junction Zero Waste Hub.

Each repair, donation, and reused item brings our community closer to a circular economy. The new building is more than walls and space — it embodies shared responsibility and the impact we create together
Introducing the new Reuse Shop at The Junction
At the heart of the new building is the Reuse Shop, a key part of The Junction Zero Waste Hub. Here, quality second hand items find new homes, resources stay in use, and waste stays out of landfill.
Shopping at the Reuse Shop offers practical benefits. You save money, reduce waste, and support a local initiative that reinvests into community and environmental outcomes. At the same time, donating usable items helps extend their life and supports others in our community.

A milestone shaped by teamwork
Over recent weeks, the Junction team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to settle into the new building. Watching people come together with shared purpose has been inspiring. Their dedication, problem solving, and care shaped the space you see today.
This building truly reflects the mahi the team does every day and the positive impact they create across Taranaki. We are proud to support a workspace that enables connection, creativity, and community leadership.
Leadership in climate action
The opening of the new Junction building follows a significant achievement for WISE Charitable Trust. The Junction Zero Waste Hub received the Leadership in Climate Action Award at the 2025 Taranaki Regional Council Environmental Awards.
This award recognises the daily work of our staff, volunteers, partners, and community. Together, we reduce waste, divert resources from landfill, and empower whānau to make sustainable choices. Importantly, this recognition highlights that climate action grows strongest when it starts locally.
When people choose to repair, repurpose, recycle, donate, or shop second hand, they help build a cleaner and more resilient Taranaki. Therefore, every small choice matters.
How WISE supports long term change
