Toy Drive Initiative

What is the Toy Drive?

Every year, WISE Charitable Trust runs a Toy Drive during November and December to collect new toys for children and families in our Healthy Homes Initiative.

Many of the whānau we support face challenges during the holiday season, and this initiative allows us to bring a little extra joy and put smiles on the faces of local tamariki.

How it works

There are a few simple ways your workplace or organisation can get involved in the WISE Toy Drive.

1. Set up a Christmas tree

Set up a Christmas tree at your workplace, decorated with special gift tags provided by WISE. Each tag includes an age group and gender (for example, Girl, 5–6 years or Boy, 10–11 years), making it easy for people to choose a tag and purchase a suitable gift.

WISE provides a selection of tags covering children from babies through to 15–16 years old.

2. Request a WISE donation box:Prefer a simpler option? We can deliver a dedicated Toy Drive collection box to your premises, where staff, customers or visitors can drop off their new, unwrapped toy donations.

3. Get your team involved: Encourage colleagues to participate by choosing a gift tag, bringing in a toy or organising a team collection. Every contribution helps make Christmas a little brighter for local tamariki and whānau.

4. Collection and delivery: Once your collection is complete, WISE will arrange to collect the donated toys by 11 December, allowing us time to sort and distribute them to families before Christmas.

Where the toys go

The donated toys are gifted to:

  • Children and families in our Healthy Homes Initiative
  • The Children’s Ward at Taranaki Base Hospital
  • Local families through community referrals and partner organisations

Our Healthy Homes Initiative (launched in 2022) supports families with children who experience health issues caused by poor housing conditions. We help remediate their homes and provide resources for healthier living. Referrals come from the Taranaki Base Hospital, Oranga Tamariki, Te Whatu Ora, Roderique Hope, Tui Ora, Plunket, WINZ, and other local organisations.

Each year, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals, we’ve been able to deliver hundreds of gifts to Taranaki children. Together, we can make this year even brighter and share the joy across our community.
